To plodding mediocre and chronic apathetics,
To the purpose that they serve;
For all success calls for sacrifice
At the Church of the Bell Curve.
To the analysis found lacking,
To the doctrine misapplied;
The lowest marks are in need of placement
And it’s here that they abide.
There are no more standards objective,
Nor any grades guaranteed;
Your undergrad sought out quality,
Law cares only for the lead.
Let it be clear, by no means derisive,
Your work might not be that poor;
It’s simply less than what’s on offer,
Every ceiling needs its floor.
If you’re looking for some rationale
That makes your marks seem prudent,
Remember that we all smile on you,
While we curse the A+ student.
