Dentons is designed to be different. As the world’s largest law firm, we redefine what is possible and shape the future. Together. Everywhere. We do this every day by connecting the power of our people, our clients, and our communities.

With deep roots in the Alberta market, Dentons’ Calgary office provides business-minded counsel to our clients in all areas of law, including energy, financial services (including domestic and international investment), capital markets, corporate (including private enterprise), mergers and acquisitions, real estate, insolvency and restructuring, securities, tax, litigation and dispute resolution, international trade, employment, and pensions.

Our student program is designed to give you unparalleled exposure to a variety of work and facilitate your transition from student to lawyer. As a Dentons student – whether you are 1L, 2L, or 3L –, you will have the opportunity to work with some of Canada’s leading lawyers, and experience in most, if not all, of our practice areas!

Our goal is to provide you with the right professional development tools and proactively integrate you into our daily practice. Our program allows students to be mentored by mid-level associates, who remembers what it feels like to be a student. As one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People, and most recently recognized among Alberta’s Top Employers, we are proud to say that most of our summer students return to article with us, and in turn, stay on as associates!

Beyond the various professional development opportunities as part of our program, we also host exciting social events, allowing you to network and connect with colleagues while, discovering new interests and abilities.

Kenny Okunola, one of our current articling students who will be returning as an Associate in fall 2022, particularly enjoyed the “Dentons Around the World” event where he had the opportunity, along with other students, to expand their knowledge on different cultures and how workplace interactions can be influenced by cultural competence.

Other social events include our Friday Bi-Weekly Treats, a Corporate group-specific social tradition gives our students a chance to connect (or re-connect) with new and old faces through an informal gathering before the day begins!

At Dentons, inclusion, diversity and equity (ID&E) are not just ancillary values. They are core to our business strategy. ID&E is essential to the success and strength of our people, our Firm and the delivery of justice through our profession. Our commitment to ID&E starts at the top with our Global Leadership, Global Board and Global Management Committee. We are committed to having an inclusive environment and a culture of equity where everyone respects, supports, and learns from each other, where all our people feel empowered to be their authentic selves and are valued equally for their unique perspectives and experiences.
